The White House is simmering with anger at criticism from liberals who say President Obama is more concerned with deal-making than ideological purity.
During an interview with The Hill in his West Wing office, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs blasted liberal naysayers, whom he said would never regard anything the president did as good enough.
“I hear these people saying he’s like George Bush. Those people ought to be drug tested,” Gibbs said. “I mean, it’s crazy.”
Two plus months until the midterm elections where all handicappers are predicting major losses for Democrats in the House and some even speculating the Senate could be in play for the GOP to take control of, and tensions are rising between the White House and their hard core supporters.
Criticism from the right is expected but criticism from the Left, their base, is causing anger and outright hostility from the White House, via Gibbs.
“And from Gibbs’s perspective, and the White House perspective, they ought to be able to catch a break from people who, in their view, should be grateful and appreciative.”
If Gibbs or the White House believe that attacking their base is the way to encourage Liberal voters to show up in large enough numbers to prevent the House Democrats from losing control and/or the Senate, perhaps they are the ones that should be drug tested.
Gallup is showing the Republicans have a 16 point lead in voter enthusiasm over the Democrats and a furious Gibbs and White House hitting out at their very base is not going to make the Left any more enthusiastic about voting them back in.
Panic is setting in at the White House and they lash out at the Left, knowing if Democrats lose control of the House and/or the Senate, there will be no more rubber-stamping of the Obama agenda.
